Here what I got up to Saturday before last. The weather was awful: cloudy and drizzly, so after lunch in Grove Ferry, the short walk involved a lot of sitting in the hide. We were rewarded with some pretty close views of a little egret hunting

Yesterday morning I got up early in a feeble attempt to beat the dog walkers (I think there was more than usual), but the wildlife and I managed to squeeze into the brief gaps between the dogs! lol. In fact I think most my photo oppertunities were ended by a dog scaring them wildlife off! Still it was productive morning. The grey squirrels were obviously having a lie in, so the first thing I encounter in Raphaels Park was this lovely great crested grebe

Last Wednesday I was free and the weather was good, a rare combination, so I headed out to try photograph some more squirrel close ups. But being half term the park was packed and the squirrels unusually scare. I did get a surprise at the lake: the water level has been lowered about 1-2m so repair work can be carried out on the bank and this has created some shallow areas, shallow enough for a heron to hunt. This is the closest I've got to a heron in Essex
